Ivy League Interviewing
Ivy League Interviewing January 5 Its Ivy League interviewing season. Always be polite when someone calls you. You never know if its your alumni interviewer! Its always good to be polite regardless Students and parents, its Ivy League interviewing season. Yes, its college interviewing season in general but, as you may know from reading our blog or taking a cursory glance at our companys name, we do have an Ivy League slant. Parents and students often ask us if we can help them (or their child) gain admission to other highly selective colleges outside of the Ivy League like Duke, Middlebury, Stanford, Michigan or Williams. Of course we can! Our students regularly apply to these schools each and every year. Anyhow, enough with that tangentlets get back to Ivy League interviewing. First, its important to be on alert. This goes for parents as well as students. When your house phone rings and the person on the other end of the line says their name is Harry Ballentine a name you do not in any way recognize be polite. Because that Harry Ballentine may well be your childs alumni interviewer. You dont want to get started on the wrong foot with Harry! And if your childs cell phone is listed on your childs application to colleges, make sure that he or she answers it professionally. AnsweringYo wasssup? would not classify as answering professionally. Nor would Hey playa whats happenin? Your childs voicemail should also be professional. Beyond just answering professionally, when that alumni interviewer does call or email and she suggests Wednesday at 3:30 PM, make yourself available then. If you have soccer practice, just skip soccer practice. Your coach will understand. Its not a big deal. You have to show your respect to the interviewer by recognizing that the interview will be conducted on his or her timetable. That means not your timetable.

Obesity And The Influences Of Physiological And Socio...
This assignment will be focusing on obesity and the influences of physiological and socio-economic factors on individualââ¬â¢s health and society. Also, a current health strategy, ââ¬ËHealthy Weight, Healthy Livesââ¬â¢ proposing to prevent obesity and improve quality of individuals and society will be evaluated. Finally, the role of child, learning disability and mental health nurse in improving individualââ¬â¢s life will be explored. Obesity is when a person has accumulated excess amount of fat to the point that it is affecting their health (WHO, 2015). WHO (2015) defines an adult with BMI greater than 25 as overweight and 30 above as obese. However, it is argued that BMI is not 100% reliable because it does not distinguish between body fat and muscle mass (National Obesity Observatory, 2009). For instance, a body builder with BMI 40 is classed as obese but this can be inaccurate as his weight has higher percentage of muscles mass than body fat. Therefore, measures i.e. waist, hip circumference, skin fold thickness and body fat ratio should be used for better indication of fatness (NOO, 2009). The prevalence of obesity is rising rapidly with England being the highest obesity rate in Europe (Public Health England, 2016). According to the HSE (2014), 24% men and 25% women are obese while 42% men and 32% women are overweight (Health and Social Care Information Centre, 2014). Obesity is caused mainly due to eating high calorie diet and lack of exercise although genetics and medicalShow MoreRelatedWesternization Vs. Eating Disorders1645 Words à |à 7 PagesWesternization Vs. Domestic violence, sexual assaults, rapes, abuse of all shape and forms are so common but yet only a few cases make it into court. How can we as a society evolve and progress when more than half of us are faced with such injustices? R. v. Ewanchuk (1999) is an important case which provided insight on how rape myths and stereotypes that are reflective of the society were integrated into the legal sphere. Comparing Byrd To Bradford Essay Example For Students
Comparing Byrd To Bradford Essay Comparing Byrd to BradfordComparing the Writing Styles of Bradford to Byrd In the Elements of Literature English book the excerpts from the stories of Plymouth Plantation by William Bradford and The History of the Dividing Line by William Byrd can be compared and contrasted in many ways. Whether its the difference in writing styles, the difference purposes for writing the stories, or simply each writers tone, this paper will give examples of each comparison or contrast. One difference between Bradford and Byrd is their writing styles. In of Plymouth Plantation, Bradford uses the Plain Style to write his account of the New World. Plain Style writing is the form of writing used by thenPuritans. The Plain Style of writing tries to stay away from figures of speech and tried to keep it plain and simple and to the point. On the other hand Byrd is in sharp contrast, in The History of the Dividing Line, to the writing style of Bradford. Byrd used forms of ridicule to write his account of what happened. One example of this is Byrds calling the sudden flock of people to the New World a modish frenzy; by this he means it was just a fad of the times. One contrast in the writings of Byrd and Bradford is the purpose for which they are written. One reason Bradford writes his story is to inform the reader about the history of the pilgrims. Another reason for Bradfords writing is to inspire future generations to Puritan ideals alive. He also wrote his story to show Gods hand in their experiences. On the other hand Byrds writing was his own personal journal that was soon to be published. Byrd may have written his story to entertain his reader. For examples all through out his story he is constantly making fun of settlers, he mentions during the story that the settlers spent 50 pounds on a church and 500 pounds on a pub. He may have made fun of the settlers to implement change in the settlers way of life. Of Plymouth Plantation may have been also written to inform the reader about the history of the Virginia colony. The last contrast between Byrd and Bradford is their attitude or tone towards the subject they are writing about. In of Plymouth Plantation Bradford uses a very plain and basic tone. Some people even refer to him as having a reverent tone. This may be because Bradford was a very religious man that stuck to the Puritan style. On the other hand Byrd used a very satirical tone. It was a more modern approach to take in writing his account of what happened. Byrds tone may have differed from Bradfords because Byrds story originally started out as his journal. And he may have had different feelings toward different matters that happened, and this may have changed his tone. To conclude, writers are never the same. There are many different types of writers. This may be because of different time periods or it could simply be the lack of education. It may even be a difference in believes or heritage or a writers feeling about a subject that would change the way he or she would write something. But the main thing is people have different opinions about things and they are going to express it in many different ways.
